Stowmarket Town Football Club can confirm that the Chair and Vice-Chair have stepped down from their roles. The current board members would like to thank them for their work since the end of June last year.
The Club would like to reassure members, players, volunteers, sponsors, and the wider community that the Club remains stable, operational, and fully focused on securing a sustainable future.
Three directors are currently in post and will continue to lead the Club during this period of transition:
Craig Fisher, recently appointed Operations Director, responsible for the day-to-day running of the Club Gareth Ward, Director and Chairman of youth football, who continues to support the Club at board level and Mandy Smith, newly appointed Director, who brings with her a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the Club’s workings, having been closely involved with Stowmarket Town FC for many years All three directors will remain in their roles while the Board is restructured, ensuring continuity, stability, and clear leadership.
Since taking over, the Board has been working to address a significant historic financial burden inherited by the Club. The primary priority remains securing the Club’s financial stability, protecting its long-term future, and ensuring that all decisions are taken responsibly and in the best interests of the Club and its members.
This has been a highly stressful period for everyone involved. Throughout this time, the support from members, volunteers, parents, sponsors, and the wider football community has been nothing short of incredible. The Club is extremely grateful for the messages of encouragement, patience, and unity shown during this challenging period.
The immediate focus is stability and continuity. Work is already underway to restructure the Board, strengthen governance, and ensure the Club is on a secure financial footing. The Club is committed to transparency and will provide further updates as appropriate.

Following a consultation between Directors and Volunteers at the Club, and in compliance with article 7.6 in the constitution, the Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be moved to 1 March 2026 at 4.30pm allowing sufficient time to ensure a smooth and orderly transition. A new notice and nomination forms will be available shortly and communicated to all members.
The Club would like to thank everyone for their continued support and understanding. Together, the Club will move forward.
