Match Report – Thurlow Nunn League Challenge Cup (Third Round)
Woodbridge Town 3–3 Stowmarket Town (Stowmarket win on penalties)
Tuesday 21st October 2025 | Notcutts Park

What a night of drama at Notcutts Park as Stowmarket Town produced one of the most remarkable comebacks in recent memory to progress to the next round of the Thurlow Nunn League Challenge Cup.

The hosts made a flying start, taking the lead inside three minutes when Kye Webb slotted home into the bottom corner. Stowmarket gradually grew into the game and began to dictate play, forcing a superb save from Hurst in the Woodbridge goal. Despite the Old Gold and Black finishing the half strongly, the home side held their 1–0 advantage at the break.

The second half looked to be slipping away from Stowmarket when Field struck twice in six minutes to make it 3–0 to Woodbridge by the 51st minute. But what followed was a sensational display of character and belief from David Lorimer’s men.

Just three minutes after falling three behind, Joel Simmons pulled one back with a tidy finish to give Stowmarket a lifeline. Then, with 20 minutes to play, Igor Grabowski found the net to make it 3–2 and set up a thrilling finale.

As the clock ticked into stoppage time, player-manager Lorimer burst through on goal only to be dragged down by Wiggins, who received a straight red card. Lorimer dusted himself off and calmly converted the resulting penalty to level the game at 3–3, capping a dramatic comeback and forcing a penalty shootout.

The momentum carried into the shootout, with Lorimer again stepping up first to convert his second spot-kick in minutes. Reece Langridge, Grabowski, and Mo Igwebuike all found the target, but the night belonged to goalkeeper Finn Shorten. The young stopper pulled off three stunning saves, including denying a retaken double penalty, to send Stowmarket through in incredible fashion.

A breathtaking fightback, a heroic goalkeeping performance, and another unforgettable night for the Old Gold and Black. Stowmarket march on to the next round of the cup — and this one will live long in the memory.
