Match Report: Walsham-le-Willows 4–0 Stowmarket Town
Thurlow Nunn Premier Division – 22 November 2025
Stowmarket Town endured a difficult afternoon at Summer Road as Walsham-le-Willows capitalised on set pieces, conditions, and defensive errors to claim a 4–0 victory in challenging winter weather.
The hosts started the sharper of the two sides and raced into a two-goal lead inside 21 minutes, with both goals coming from dead-ball situations. The opener arrived from a corner, driven into the danger area and turned home amid a crowded six-yard box. Moments later, a deep free-kick swung into the Stowmarket penalty area wasn’t dealt with, and Walsham punished the hesitation with a clinical finish to make it 2–0.
Stowmarket again showed their ability to play attractive football between the boxes, stringing together neat passages of play, but lacked the cutting edge needed to trouble the Walsham goal. The hosts, by contrast, were winning the crucial 50/50 challenges, and as a loose bouncing ball dropped centrally six yards out, it was ruthlessly smashed into the net for their second of the afternoon. The Old Gold and Black went into the break with plenty to ponder and trailing by two.
The weather worsened after halftime—cold, wet, windy—and so did Stowmarket’s fortunes. Just five minutes into the second half, an attempt to play out from the back went disastrously wrong. A loose pass was intercepted by a Walsham forward, who finished calmly to extend the lead to 3–0 and leave the visitors with a mountain to climb.
Despite the scoreline, Stowmarket continued to battle and held firm for much of the second period, preventing Walsham from adding further goals in open play. But in injury time, the hosts were awarded a penalty, which they converted to round off the afternoon at 4–0 and cap a miserable day for the visitors.
A tough defeat and one to learn from, as Stowmarket now look to regroup, reset, and respond in their upcoming fixtures.
