Match Report: Stowmarket Town 1–3 Soham Town Rangers
League Cup – Fourth Round

Stowmarket Town’s League Cup journey came to an abrupt end as Soham Town Rangers struck three second-half goals to overturn a one-goal deficit and progress at Greens Meadow.

Stowmarket began brightly, buoyed by the return of Jack Wharton-Richardson, who marked his comeback in perfect style. Playing alongside his brother Will for the first time at senior level, Jack produced a composed first-half finish to give the Old Gold and Black a deserved lead.

With injuries and suspensions forcing changes, the tie also offered valuable opportunities to several Under-23 regulars. The young players rose to the occasion, helping Stowmarket control much of the first period and carry a 1–0 advantage into the break.

The second half began evenly, with Stowmarket knowing that a second goal would likely kill off the tie. Chances came and went, but Soham stayed in the contest and delivered a decisive sucker-punch—two quick-fire goals that turned the match on its head and left Stowmarket suddenly chasing the game.

The hosts responded with determination, pouring forward in waves in search of an equaliser. But the attacking commitment came with risk, and Soham eventually exploited the space on the counter-attack, breaking away to score a third and put the game beyond reach at 1–3.

Despite late pressure and plenty of effort from the youthful Stowmarket side, there was no way back, and the final whistle confirmed the club’s exit from the League Cup for another year.

There were positives to take—particularly Jack Wharton-Richardson’s successful return and encouraging displays from the younger players—but ultimately Stowmarket were left to reflect on a tie that slipped away after a strong opening hour.
