Match Report: Stowmarket Town 1–4 Haverhill Rovers

Suffolk Premier Cup 1/4 Final

Stowmarket Town endured a frustrating afternoon as a slow start proved decisive in a 4–1 defeat to Haverhill Rovers at Greens Meadow.

The home side were caught cold in the opening exchanges, and Haverhill took full advantage. Two well-taken goals inside the first twenty minutes left Stowmarket with a mountain to climb and the visitors full of confidence.

After the early setbacks, Stowmarket began to settle and gradually took control of the ball. Their passing had more purpose, the tempo increased, and Haverhill found themselves pushed back for long spells. Despite the growing pressure, clear-cut chances were limited, and Town went into the break knowing they needed the next goal.

The pattern continued after half-time with Stowmarket on the front foot, but just as they appeared to be building momentum, Haverhill struck a third on the hour mark—another clinical finish that left Town facing an uphill battle.

The flicker of hope finally came when Stowmarket were awarded a penalty. Brandon Salisbury stepped up confidently and dispatched it into the corner to give the home crowd something to cheer and rekindle belief in a comeback.

Any such dreams were short-lived, however, as Haverhill responded swiftly. A fourth goal for the visitors deflated Stowmarket’s resurgence and effectively ended the contest.

Despite the result, Town’s performance after the early setbacks showed character and intent, but the damage inflicted in the opening stages proved too much to overturn.

Stowmarket will now regroup and look to bounce back quickly as they return to league cup action.
